Midnight Oil were an Australian rock band formed in Sydney in 1972. The band was composed of founding members Peter Garrett, Jim Moginie, Andrew (Bear) James Martin Rotsey (guitar) and Rob Hirst ; with James later being replaced by Peter Gifford (1980-1987) and later Bones Hillman (1987-2020).
