Another posthumous album from another legendary musician, assembled from different periods of his career. We are greeted by retro funk with Prince’s distinctive vocals in excellent remastered quality. By the second song, we are already plunged almost into punk. The genre blending characteristic of Prince is present—all the more so since these are recordings from different years, brought to a common denominator. “I Wonder” has potential hit appeal. Of course, a sense of incompleteness can sometimes be felt in posthumous songs.
“With This Tear,” in Prince’s version, is soulful. Overall, the album even contains some interesting arrangement choices. A touch of hip-hop was unavoidable, and on “The Guilty Ones” they bring the rock. Of course, this is not Prince’s best album, but if you didn’t know it was a posthumous album assembled not by the maestro himself, you could take it for a fairly diverse album by a legend of average quality—one that will remain in fans’ memories but be forgotten by the majority.
